Our Voyages of a Lifetime share many similarities - travelling by private train, having an extensive sightseeing programme, learning about local culture and customs and meeting local people. However the tours themselves and the destinations can be quite different. To help you choose the tour that is right for you we have included the following symbols to highlight particular features of each of our tours.

GOURMET EXPERIENCE
	All the food served on board our trains is lovingly prepared by our chefs. Tours which feature this symbol have an exceptionally high standard of food served on board which we believe to be one of the highlights of the trip.
LUXURY
	All of our trains have a good level of comfort and facilities on board, but the tours which feature this symbol go beyond that – they epitomise luxurious train travel.
SPA FACILITIES
	For those people who really want to pamper themselves whilst on holiday, the excellent on board train facilities include a gym, hairdressing salon as well as a massage and beauty spa.
ENSUITE FACILITIES
	On these tours, the cabins on board our trains feature en-suite bathroom facilities which include a toilet, sink and shower. The Golden Eagle Gold Class cabins features state of the art under floor heating and the Royal Suite on the Pride of Africa even has a bath!
HOTELS
	All the accommodation for these tours is off train in hotels rather than on board the train. One of the particular highlights is the wonderful Relais & Chateaux Post Hotel & Spa at Lake Louise in Banff National Park on both the round trip and westbound departures through the Canadian Rockies.
HISTORY
	These tours all have an historical element, whether it is travelling in Marco Polo’s footsteps along the ancient Silk Trading Route; discovering more about one of the world’s oldest civilisations, the Egyptians, and marvelling at the Pyramids at Giza; learning the fascinating history of Siberia, this infamous area of Russia; or visiting the Himalayan hill-station of Darjeeling and being served traditional British “afternoon tea” in the drawing room of the colonial style hotel.
ADVENTURE
	These tours are for travellers who want to have a slightly more adventurous holiday, don’t mind that there is not always an en-suite bathroom and want to really experience the destination; whether it is sharing your 14 hour journey to Lhasa with a local family; eating local fare with chopsticks or occasionally using the local amenities. We believe that these experiences all add to your holiday and will provide you with incredible travellers’ tales to relate to your friends when you get home!
BOAT TRIPS
	A particular highlight of these tours are the boat trips or cruises. These range from a short journey on the Ganges in India to a three day 5* luxury cruise on the Nile or through the spectacular Three Gorges.
WILDLIFE
	Although we obviously can’t guarantee that you will get to see “the big 5” in Africa, the chances are pretty high as these tours allow you to get up close to some of the world’s most amazing wildlife.
CULTURAL EXPERIENCE
	Experiencing the local culture is an important feature of all of our tours, but we have highlighted the tours which we feel offer the greatest opportunity to really get to know local customs and culture – whether it is visiting the unique Naadam Festival in Mongolia; walking through the Dhobi Ghats Laundry in Bombay; or sharing a special moment with a Tibetan monk at one of the many traditional working temples that we visit.
STEAM
	These tours are hauled by a beautifully restored Steam locomotive for the entire journey.
SPECTACULAR SCENERY
	On all of our tours you should make sure you have your camera with you, ready to capture the beautiful scenery through which we travel - after all, this is one of the great things about travelling by rail. However the particular tours featuring this symbol take in some of the world’s most stunning scenery; from the awe–inspiring Rocky Mountains and the Columbia Icefields; to the to the views from the train on the Roof of the World line to Lhasa; to the mountain ranges lining either side of the Three Gorges, we know that you will not be disappointed.
EARLY MORNINGS/ LONG DAYS
	To show you more of the wonderful sights at the locations we visit, the tours which feature this symbol may have a few consecutive early mornings and long days.
TOUR DOCTOR
	These tours have an onboard doctor who travels with us for the entire journey, so you can rest assured that medical assistance is always available. On call 24 hours a day they are on hand to give primary care as required. We try to ensure that, wherever possible, all the doctors are English speaking and accredited by the British Medical Council.
