GW Travel continues to design and operate unique steam-hauled and steam interest tours.
Over the years some of our particular steam highlights have been:
-
Steam tours over the entire distance from Hoek van Holland to Vladivostok, a distance of 7,440 miles (11,970 km).
- The longest steam hauled tour ever operated, covering 11,106 miles (17,873 km), the 'BAM 2000 Steam Express' exploring the remote BAM railway, Sakhalin Island and then returning via the Trans-Siberian mainline. In total this tour covered 15,926 miles (25,630 km) in 47 days.
- 2002-2005 the Jingpeng China Orient Express, to the last steam-worked mainline in the world over the spectacular Jingpeng Pass in Inner Mongolia.
- In 2004 the Trans-Canadian Steam Express, the first Canadian Pacific Trans-Continental passenger train for 30 years, and the first steam hauled for 50 years.
- In 2001, GW Travel restored a P36, Russia's most modern express-steam locomotive design, and the largest steam locomotive in Europe.
